Assinment #7

The link to the assignment is --> click here <--

Which category of Canadian Personalities interested you the most? Did you like the "we inspired", "we founded", "we fought", "we built" or "we governed" section the best? Why?

I liked we fought section of the meet the personalities section of the Canadian museum of civilization website because most of the people in that section reshaped the destiny of Canada and fought till they died just for Canada

Which personality interested you the most? Why?

Louis-Joseph and James Wolfe interested me the most because they risked their life and got wounded to help Canada. James Wolfe was a commander of the British forces at Quebec City. Wolfe defeated Montcalm in 1759 that got marked the beginning of British rule in Canada. Wolfe was a very good and experienced soldier.

I got my information for this question from these sites:

What are 3 more Canadians that can be added to the history museum?

I think Barack Obama should be added to the site because he was the first black American president. Barack Obama promised to make a change in the world and so-far hes doing a good job so that's why I think he should be added to the site. I couldn't find any site that had good information on Barack Obama. I think he shold go into the "we inspired" section because he inspired so many people to make a change.

I think that Harriet Tubman should be added to the site because she freed alot of black slaves and tried her best to save most of them but some of them got caught. Tubman was beaten and whipped by different owners so when she escaped she was desperate to rescue slaves. She made 13 trips to try and rescue some slaves. I think she should be added to the "we inspired" section because she inspired alot of other people to save black slaves and end slavery. I got my information from: This site that helped me with most of this information and had a good discription of hariet tubman.

James Naismith should be added to the site because he invented basket ball that's a very popular sport played all over the world and he inspired other people to make sports because he was only nine years old when James Naismith became a orphan. After school he finished his first four degrees at McGill University in Quebec. Naismith was teaching a physical education class at the age of 30. All of the games were getting boring so Naismith had to get another game. Luther Gulick, the Physical Education superintendent at Springfield College gave Naismith 14 days to develop a new game for the students. Naismith wanted a game of finesse and accuracy not a game that would be too physical. He came up with a soccer ball; two peach baskets set 10 feet in the air, 9 players on each team and 13 basic rules. That's how basket ball was invented. I think he mad a difference because if there was no basket ball there would probably be more overweight unhealthy kids. I think he should be in the "we inspired" section because he inspired many people to play the game and become a famous basket ball player and make other sports.

I played the history match-up-maker and Emily Carr and I were the most in common. I was not able to figure it out by the clues given and it was the first time I ever heard the name Emily Carr. The things that are different are that she is one of Canada's best known artists and im not. She visited Canada's northwest coast and drew pictures of the first nations villages she saw there. I don't want my pictures to be shown in an art gallery and become famous for my drawing with probably won't happen anyway but she is famous for her drawing and there are alot of them in galleries around the world.
In 2109 i want to be known as a Artist and a athlete runner. I drew a picture of the heart and in 2109 it helped a whole group of artists to find out the cure for a new type of cancer and aids so that now alot of people won't die because of those disses.

Assignment #6 black history month

Marie Joseph Angelique was a black slave that was in the Atlantic slave trade. The Atlantic slave trade was the trade of African people supplied to the colonies of the new world that occurred in and around the Atlantic Ocean. She was sold to a man named Nicolas Bleeker who brought her to the New World. She lived in New England before being sold to a french business man from Montreal named Francois Poulin de Francheville. Francois Poulin de Francheville died in 1733. Angelique worked in the Francheville home in Montreal, and occasionally helped on the family's small farm on the island of Montreal, witch was primaraly used for the Francheville's trading expadition.

Angelique had 3 children. A boy born in 1731 who died one month after he was born and 2 twins born in 1732 who died within 5 months. Angelique married a man from Madagascar named Jacques César. Angelique was found to have held a relationship with a white servant named Claude Thibault who was hired by the Francheville that was now dead. The widow asked her brother-in-law who's name was Alexis Moniere to keep both her slaves and her servent Claude Thibault untill she came back.

On February 22 while the widow Francheville was still away, Angelique and Thibalt planned on escaping to New England. They planned on going across the frozen St. Lawrence river and stoping to get bread. Thibalt had hidden in a barn in Longueuil in prepartion for thier trip. However, trvel was difficult in the winter and both of them were forced to hide in Châteauguay near the Chambly road, untill the wether was better. Both of them were cought a couple of weeks later by the militia captains. The widow was planing on selling Angelique now.

Thibalt was then sent to prison. When he was relesed Angelique planned on escaping again. Angelique told a servant that she planned on escaping by setting a fire as a destraction. In the evening of April 10,1734, while her owner was at church, Angelique was seen running out the door of her house screeming "fire!" the neibours attempted on putting out the blaze, but it spread quickly within 3 hours 46 buildings were destroyed. As Angelique and Thibalt were saving goods from the burning house rumors spread around thast they had set the fire but she denied them.

Angélique was charged and tried. French law at the time allowed for suspects to be arrested on the basis of "public knowledge" when the community was agreed upon their guilt. Over the next 6 weeks, the prosecution called a large number of witnesses, none of them knew anything about Angelique setting the fire, but they were certain that she did it. They knew Angelique as a badly behaved slave that usuly spoke back to her owner.

I think that she might have been influential becouse she might have influenced people to stop slavery becouse they knew that she hated being a slave so it must have been very bad. Slaves also got treated like they wern't human and that happend to Angelique. Angelique probably inspired someone to end slavery becouse it was so harsh.

Assignment #5

Why would anyone want to leave their warm home country to come to Canada to fight the feirce cold winds and the freezing land? They didn't have houses or anything. Not even simple tools like a pot or any food.

A few reasons why they took this step of courage is becouse in Europe (where they immagrated from) they wern't aloud to do alot of the things they wanted to do. For example they wern't aloud freedome of worship. The goverment had controll over their way of life, the men were forced to serve in the army, there were no jobs or the jobs were very low paid, many people were poor and barly made enough money to survive, the farmers wanted to own their own land and the cities were over crowded and, dirty and polluted.

The goverment of Canada was offering them free land if they settles on the prairies. For alot of people that could mean that they could own their own land and have a better life. They wouldn't have to give away part of their food to the goverment anymore. The people were also told that their were alot of jobs so that ment that money wouldn't be a very big worry. Some immagrents hoped to make some money out of it and even open their own business. They could get bever pelts and have alot of other animals to hunt.

The people that immagrated to Canada would have faced some difficulties such as finding food, making houses, getting equiptment to cut down the tree's to make the houses and alot of other house hold equiptment. They would have nothing to heat them in the cold. Some might have died of scurvy ( scurvy was a very famous dieses in the olden days) and other dieses.

I think my family came to Canada becouse the state of my country wasn't good. There was probably alot of violence and alot of dieses. There is alot of plases to go in Canada for a trip or sight seeing. Canada also had alot of land and big houses. A few sites that i found that were helpfull are:
A site that i used for most of my info.

Assignment #4

James had some very good information on his blog about 2109. He wrote about what could happen to the earth. How it could become distroyed. A quote from his assignmment on 2109 is "In 2109, I don't think there will even be an Earth anymore. By 2109, the world would have already been corrupted, and pollution would have destroyed all the environment." I really think that what James wrote could become true because global warming is already playing a big ole in our daily lives and the garbage is already destroying our earth. We have turned earth into a landfill sight. Overall James assignment on 2109 was awesome! --> Click Here<-- to visit James blog.

The second peer i picked is waseem. The reason i picked waseem was that he had alot of good information and ideas on what will happen in 2109. He thought we might find somewhere else to live like the moon. Waseem also thought that in 2109 war will stop because we will find out a new way to stop war. A quote from Waseem's assignment on 2109 is "the world will change like there will be no more discrimination because Obama is president " I found that quote very nice because there might not be any discrimination of black people because there is now a black president and that might stop racism. Overall Waseem's entry was very good. Check out his blog.

The final peer I picked was Jamal. I liked his blog becouse he had some good information. He wrote about there being peace in the future and Canada being so packed full of people that some will have to move out and live somewhere else. A quote i liked was "I think in the future there will be peace" I liked that quote becouse I think everyone wants peace. One thing i think Jamal could improve on is being more specific. For example "The future will look better we will have more techonolgy and better things to have" Jamal wrote that the future will look better but he could have discribed it more. Overall I think that Jamal did a very nice job! Visit Jamal's blog to see more of his posts.

Assignment #3/ 2109

In 2109 alot will change. We are now hearing about global warming in 2009. How bad will it get in 2109. Global warming is already such a big issue in the world. If you look anywhere you will see smoke rising into the sky. You can look anywhere and u will see smoke coming from houses, buildings, especially those big factory's. There is already so much pollution in 2009. How much will there be in 2109? Il tell you. We have been advancing in technology from when the first pioneers came to know. Before they used to use axes and saws to cut down trees. Now we use chain saws and big trucks. In the future they might use robots or they might have radar controlled trucks that cut down trees without anyone driving it. If they do make radar controlled trucks we know one thing there will be alot more pollution. That means that global warming will become a really big issue in 2109 or even before that. Right now humans run factory's that produce alot alot of smoke. In 2109 they might make machines that control them selves that will mean more gas will be used with means more pollution. Right now in 2009 we have sent robot space ships to visit mars. Scientests have found frozen bacteria there that was once living. If bacteria can live somewhere very far from earth why can't we? We might all board big ships that can fly and go to a difrent planet to live on. The earth will probably be used as a place where they run all there factory on and send us all to a difrent planet. Even worse earth might just blow up becouse of all the harm done to it or used as a garbage site. Isreal is attacking gaza with bombs and difrent wepons that is causing dammage to the earth. In 2109 people will be using more advanced bombs that will cause 2x the dammage to the earth and people witch will lead to mass distruction on earth. We already cut down alot of the trees and destroyed rain forests to build factorys that kill the earth. In 2109 the trees might become extinct or they will be indangerd of being extint. With all the trees gone there will be nothing besides small plants to take the carbon deoxide and switch it to oxygen. That could lead to us all having to be forced to leave earth and go to a difrent planted. Besides from all the bad things there could be some good things too. There might be a new law saying that using gas for anything is illegal. We might start using corn oil (ethanol) instead of gas or there might be solar powerd cars. We could start getting all our electrisity from windmills, dams, and solar power. We might make a special day in everyone month where everyone has to go outside and pickup all the garbage they see to help the earth. There might be a new law saying that chopping down more than 100 trees a month is illegal. We might start a whole new program where everyone goes outside and plants trees. Lastly and most importantly there might be world peace. Please cheack out Christopher Moore's blog.
